Film Of The Week 28/7/08

I don't usually put big blockbusters just released at the cinema as the film of the week, but this week I thought I'd make an exception this week as the movie is truly stunning. This week the film is The Dark Knight, starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.
With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman has been making headway against local crime...until a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger) unleashes a fresh reign of chaos across Gotham City.

This film will have your eyes glued to the screen from start to finish with great explosions, great script and great acting, especially fro Heath Ledger who does an absolutely amazing job as The Joker and really stealing the show, he's even got some decent one liners. Most Batman films leave you wanting to be the Batman but this does the opposite and makes you want to be the villain.

If there was one film you should watch before you die, this is definitely it.

Fixed My Bike

I was riding my bicycle down to Harry's house yesterday, when the inner tube on my back tyre popped out. So I got off my bike and tried to put it back in place. But surprise surprise the inner tube was tube wasn't the right size for the wheel. And I was stranded with a broken bike in front of a pub with a bunch of people staring at me and my bike ; none of them offered helped me although I thought one man was coming to help but he just walked past. I had to call Harry and ask him to ride his bike down to help with my dilemma. When harry arrived, he bought some spanners so I could take the wheel off, and sin about 10 minutes my bike was fixed.

Film of The Week 21/7/08

This weeks film of the week is Better Off Dead, starring John Cusack and Curtis Armstrong.
Lane Meyer (Cusack) is obsessed with his girlfriend Beth and is crushed when she falls for the new captain of the ski team, Roy. After several failed suicide attempts, narrow escapes from the relentless paper boy, and nearly unbearable dinners at home with his crazy family, Lane finds a new love in French exchange student Monique Junot. Meanwhile, he must beat Roy on the slopes to regain his honor.

This film is a brilliant 80's teen comedy. It's basically a series of sketches joined together to create a movie. The plot doesn't really have a particular focus so it can get quite unpredictable, which I like because I hate it when you can guess what happens at the ending because you have seen so many films do the same. If you watch the film, what I just said slightly contradictory but it's how it gets to the ending which is different.

Not so much a must see but if you get the chance to watch it, watch it.

Decent Dark Knight Poster

Ok, so some of you may be thinking that I've taken the topic of Batman posters a bit too far, but I promise you this is the last one.

I was in the Spar and I saw that the August issue of Total Film magazine contained a free Batman poster. The poster isn't as big as a standard one but it is a decent size for a freebie. It's a double poster, on the back is Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

So if want a decent Batman poster and live in the UK, (not sure if the worldwide copies have the poster) buy the magazine 'cos you can't buy this poster in the shops. Heres what the poster looks like.

Film of the Week 14/7/08

Last week I was ridiculously bored, so i rented the film "Sorority Boys" off cable. It sounded good and it was cheap, but I expected it to be another failed attempt of teen comedy. But to my surprise it wasn't, it was actually really good.

Three rowdy college students are kicked out of their dorm and dress up in drag to live in the DOG house, where the girls deemed unattractive live.

This film isn't as dirty as other teen movies, but there are some scenes that will make you say "eww". The story line is quite bad although it's not absolutely vital and just acts as a motive for the characters actions. It does get into the main plot near the beginning so there is no need to sit through pointless dialogue.

A decent, original teen comedy thats more than just about getting laid.

The Dark Kight Posters

I was in Forbidden Planet the other day when I noticed the posters for the new Batman film were available to buy. I had been looking forward to buying one for a long time to fill the space in my room still showing wallpaper.

But as I looked through them, I could not find one that I liked. They were terrible. Not all of them were bad, just not as good as the posters used to advertise the film. To see the posters available click here. The first one isn't too bad, but the rest yuck.

They should have used these images as posters, that would have raked the money in.

And my personal favourite.

Got Guitar Hero 3

I was originally planning to buy Rock Band when it came out on PS3 but HMV are doing a deal where you can get Guitar Hero 3 on PS3 for £45 (about $90) and I couldn't be bothered to wait till august, I'd just finished my exams and I thought to hell with Rock Band.

Completely new to the Guitar Hero series, I really didn't know what to expect. Out of the box comes a wireless guitar, the game, a guitar strap and stickers which were quite cool.

The game features over 70 songs from bands including Slipknot, The Sex Pistols, Iron Maiden and Poison. For a full list go here. The songs are not brilliant but are good although the downloadable songs are quite lame.

The game should keep you constantly entertained for about 4-5 days, as a lot of people would struggle to get past the medium difficulty. But it is great fun to play with a friend, online or on the same console. Don't worry if you only have one guitar because a PS3 controller can be used, not as good as a guitar but doesn't leave anyone left out.

Decent game for the price I got it for, I recommend it especially if you're not a a hardcore gamer.

Crap Weather

Don't you think that weather in the UK is just shit. We get one day of sun a week and the rest are rainy. Even on the longest day of the year it wouldn't stop raining, made me wish that was the shortest day.

It's even raining now and apparently it's going to rain on all week.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-rain it would just be nice to have a few days of sun to remind you that it's actually Summer.

How to Moonwalk

It's awesome being able to do something that your friends can't, so I put this video up to help you learn how to moonwalk.

It's not the best video moonwalk video and the guy is not great but he breaks it down well and is easy to follow. Special thanks to AngeDeLumiere.

Film Of The Week 7/7/08

This week's Film Of The Week is Hot Rod, starring Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Isla Fisher.

Self-proclaimed stunt man Rod Kimble is preparing for the jump of his life - to clear fifteen buses to raise money for his abusive stepfather Frank's life-saving heart operation. (Source IMDB)

I bought this film for the hell of it and to keep me entertained for a while. Just after I bought it i had the biggest regret and wanted to return it, but that was before I watched it. I was shocked at how good it was. The film gives off a Napoleon Dynamite vibe but also a fresh feel to it. The jokes can be (extremely) random at times, but the cast pull them off very well and make you wonder how something so simple and stupid can be so funny.

I have watched this film 4 times over the past two months and still find it as hilarious as the first time I watched it.

If you are going to watch this film, I recommend you watch it in the summer because it's the type of film that makes you want to go outside and just have an adventure.

I strongly recommend this film to anybody who wants to have a good laugh.

Virgin Media Clamps Down on Limewire Users

I haven't made any posts for a long time but decided to start up the site.

Bad news if your ISP is Virgin Media and you use Limewire, because they have sent out letters to over 800 people threatening to disconnect their broadband connection if it continues.

Virgin have teamed up with the BPI to track the illegal downloads of copyrighted music. They do this by Virgin sending your IP address to the BPI, then sending you a letter (I'm not sure whether this is just for music or all media in general).

But this tracking is not just for Limewire users, but for any P2P software users that includes torrent software such as bittorrent and utorrent.

Well that sucks.
